So, I learned to track my calories. It helps me know exactly what I’m eating and keep my calories in line with what I need to maintain a healthy weight.
I do this by using the Loseit app to track my calories. It’s a free app that’s super easy to use. So, today, I thought I’d walk you guys through a few ways that I use it:
Log Everything I Eat: And this means EVERYTHING. From my egg whites to the Kit-Kats. In order to lose weight, you have to have correct information on what you’re eating. It doesn’t do any good to not log all your calories. So, log the handful of M&Ms from your co-workers desk, the crust of your daughter’s grilled cheese and the mayonnaise on your sandwich – those little calories will add up quicker than you think.
Log My Workouts: I use a heart rate monitor to track the calories burned at most of my workouts. I then put these into Loseit so there’s a central place that tracks my calories eaten vs calories burned. Plus, Loseit works off of net calories vs gross calories. (So, if I’m allotted 1,200 calories and I burn 300 running, I get a total of 1,500 calories to eat for the day.)
Find Loseit Friends: This one is key for me. Loseit has an option to connect with your friends. Now, I can’t see what foods my friends eat, but I can see their net calories for the day. That way, it keeps me accountable for what I’m eating and motivated when I see them staying within their calorie goals. I can also see what exercise they do for the day. And, seeing that Mandy got in an afternoon jog may help get my butt off the couch to add in some extra cardio.
I can tell you this, when I don’t track my calories, I overeat. And, no surprise, I don’t lose weight. If you’re looking to shed a few pounds, I would highly recommend that you start tracking your calories.
